30 Day Writing Challenge – Day 22
8 days ’til my mother in law comes to visit. My office is almost cleared out, probably another 4-5 hours of steady work there. Then we’re getting some bedroom furniture for the room on Sunday. Whew.
Good things are happening! Mom’s impending visit jump-started some long overdue changes:
1. We’re actually doing some of the things we’ve talked about around the house
2. Clearing out the office and turning it into a real spare bedroom
3. Cleared out the garage and turned it into a real usable space, not just a storage area
4. We have a clear plan on how and what to do to finish off the other rooms and spaces we have available
5. We’re having discussions about what to do with the patio area (which we both want to enclose and incorporate with the building out back. Now it’s just a matter of deciding on a plan of action, then getting it done
6. We’re actually getting rid of a lot of stuff and junk we’ve just been holding onto
7. The greatest thing of all .. we haven’t killed each other!
On another note, we took two of our fur kids to the vet this morning and they did very well. They both got their shots, tests and heart worm prevention meds. Bella also got her nails clipped .. and I gladly paid the $26.50 to have them do it. Seriously. Bella is a little Chihuahua .. and I do mean little and she does not like to have her paws messed with. She us fights tooth and nail when we try to clip her nails.
Wrote the check and had the vet assistants do it, while we watched. Yep, she fought them as well, but we got to see how they handled her. And while I think we may be able to do it ourselves next time around, I might just write the check again. Hurts my heart to see her fight so hard, but it’s something that needs to be done on a more regular basis.
Dobby was totally quiet and just let the vet go about her business. He did great :)
30 Day Writing Challenge – Day 21
I made a commitment to write for 30 days .. and it was intended to be 30 consecutive days. However, as you can see, I took a few days off. So to finish off the challenge I’m going to continue writing for the next 10 days and get myself back on track and complete my (slightly modified) commitment.
I spent the last few days working my butt off clearing out my office. My Honey’s mom will be here in 10 days, so we’ve had to ramp it up a bit.
Thank goodness I have such a wonderful family! My aunt and two cousins came over to help us. We managed to clear out 95% of the spare room/office and to get most of the stuff packed up in storage bins and boxes. My aunt is a machine! I thought she only had one speed: Go!
I soon found out she actually has two: Go! and Go Like Hell!
Everything was then moved out and into the garage. We moved a huge open cabinet with pull out shelves into a perfectly accessible spot. It’s perfect because it holds everything and it’s very close to where the bins and boxes will find their permanent home.
In any case, I’m hopeful the room will be ready in time.
Tip of the day: The featured image for this post is of the Homz 27 Gal. Tough Box.
It is simply the absolute BEST BUY ever! These containers hold a considerable amount of stuff. The sides are slightly angled, almost straight, so you get to use the whole box. The construction is top of the line and the lid fits snuggly. The lid also has holes for securing the box with cable ties or actual locks. They also stack perfectly. No wobble and no chance of the sides or lids buckling or bending.
It is, without a doubt, the Best Storage solution I’ve found .. and at under $9 each at Costco .. the deal of the century!
30 Day Writing Challenge – Day 20
The USWNT are the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup Champions! The Team USA beat Japan 5-2 in what was the highest scoring Women’s Final ever. Wow, what a game!
That’s what I did today. Set myself up to watch the entire pregame, final match and the awards ceremonies afterward. Women’s sports are my thing. It’s what I love and it’s the niche which got me started online. The only “work” I did today was play around with my tee shirt designer and made a quick tee and put if up on Facebook.
There are some things I’ll change about the campaign over the next couple of days, but it was good to get something done and launched. And what a hassle that was! All kinds of little mistakes, do overs and oh shit, do it again. I learned all kinds of things like, to pay attention to the settings for my graphics sizes, the font, colors and getting pixel codes for FB retargeting. Yep, learned lots and tuckered myself out.
Anyways, that was my day .. spent it doing what I love :)
30 Day Writing Challenge – Day 19
One thing I’ve noticed over these past 19 days is that my schedule really doesn’t lend itself to creating any kind of sustainable business habit. To elaborate, I still have a full-time job. I work the midnight shift, on a two week rotating schedule. Hours are usually from 8pm to 6am, sometimes from 6pm – 6am. My typical rotation looks like this:
Sun Mon Tue Wed Thu Fri Sat Sun Mon Tue Wed Thu Fri Sat
Off M M M Off Off M M Off Off M M M Off
and so on. I work a maximum of 3-10 hr days in a row, then have 2 days off. I get every other weekend off. If I have to work on a weekend, it’s only Sat and Sun. I’m off the two days before a weekend and two days after a weekend. I get to to have Mon/Tue off on one week and Thu/Fri off the next. I work every Weds. Pretty freakin’ great schedule, if you ask me. And yes, I designed it myself.
When I’m not working, I have my partner of 20 years, 8 cats and 3 dogs to share time and space with. Finding time to work on things when I’m off is the tricky part.
Anyway, the point is, trying to create any kind of a habit on my schedule it not easy. Doing my best to stick to whatever routine I can grasp onto .. and hoping for the best. I got off a 12 hr shift at 6am this morning and slept until 11:30 am. I’m on the computer thinking about things. I have the opportunity to write my Day 19 entry right now, so I’m taking advantage of it.
On another note, here’s something interesting that’s going on in a Facebook group I’m in:
The group owner is a product and website creator. She either creates or promotes products, and will sometimes offer a Done For You set up service as part of the deal.
She’s been making her living online full-time for about 10 years or more. Her business has been great for a long time, and over the past few months, evolving and seriously ramping up.
Last evening she asked her group members if any of them had the skills necessary to provide these set up services and if so, how much they would charge. Almost immediately she had 4 or 5 people raise their hands.
She then challenged them to put up a sales letter for their services, including Buy Buttons, and to tell customers why they should choose to use their services instead of someone else’s.
Within a couple hours she accomplished:
1. Identifying some possible outsourcers for her business
2. Helped a handful of her customers create an additional revenue stream
3. Helped raise the stature of those individuals within the group, as they are now being seen as “resident experts”
4. Increased her capacity to delivery these DFY products on a much grander scale
I’m sure other pluses will come to light as this event plays itself out.
I found it completely fascinating, hope you do too.
30 Day Writing Challenge – Day 18
I didn’t get as much done today as I had hoped. I was just too tired from working last night and having to go in two hours earlier tonight to cover the holiday schedule. At least with 12 hr shifts I can usually get plenty of work done without being interrupted too often.
I’m off this 4th of July weekend and hope to get some work done around my house in preparation for my mother in law’s visit. I’ll sleep long and hard when I get home tomorrow morning and will be able to enjoy the festivities.
There is sooo much work to be done and only three weeks left to get ‘er done. Praying for inspiration and intervention!
Kinda having a rough time concentrating and staying on topic today. I know I’m mentally tired and a great sleep will do wonders. Doesn’t help me right now though, with 6 hrs left of my 12 hr shift. Ugh. Reckon a strong cup of coffee is in order.
I just got a huge spike of inspiration, courtesy of Brad Spencer. We’ve never met, and only know of each other through some Facebook marketing groups we both belong to. This evening he posted a “before” pic of himself as he embarks on his personal journey to a healthier lifestyle. Kudos Brad! My Honey and I are starting the Sugar Solution Impact Challenge to clean up our diets and make that all important lifestyle change. Always nice to know you’re not alone.
30 Day Writing Challenge – Day 15
Halfway there! Woohoo! 15 days and except for maybe pushing the lateness of my posts a bit, I’ve kept on track. The whole reason for doing this challenge is to train myself to write. Write something, anything, every day so I learn to take the time from my oh-so-busy schedule and consciously think about what I want to say. It’s an interesting thing really. Most of my entries here have been short and sweet. Some quite personal. Some where I’m explaining business things I’m doing and why. It’s all good.
I spent the better part of today watching training videos. I’m keeping to my word of going full bore on the tee shirt ecommerce platform and today was a day of intentional learning. One cool thing with this platform is that the developers are making it so we can sell out own products as well as tees, etc.
Along the way, I’ve discovered that I really really dislike webinars which are over an hour long. How much time to do I want to spend listening to and watching a recording? Always so much banter and getting off track. I’ve got things to do! Anyway, just something I’ve noticed.
Since I’m sold on TeeProfitsPro, I also took the opportunity to send out an email to a few friends and post in a Facebook group of marketers about the new system. Had a good number of folks asking me for details of the system, so used my affiliate link to send them to the website. I sure hope some of them jump on it with me because it really is a wonderful product and opportunity.
Pau for now .. more tomorrow.
30 Day Writing Challenge – Day 13
What a day! Huge family get together to celebrate Boniface Hoaliku Lee. Bumpa, (so named by David “D” Lee, when as a baby he couldn’t say Grampa), is nearly 96 years of age and going strong. 60 or so friends and family stopped by to visit, hang out, and kaukau Hawaiian style. (For you haoles out there, “kaukau” is Hawaiian slang for “food” or “let’s eat”. “Kaukau Hawaiian style” means, eat till you’re full, sleep, wake up and eat some more.
Anyway, long story short, it was a wonderfully exhausting day :)
I had a couple of ah ha moments as well. I have a number of interests and am building multiple websites and businesses which deal with those interests. One ah ha is that I’m ready to see some financial fruits from my labors. While I’m building out some long term business resources, there are also a few short term business ventures with which I could realize some cash flow more immediately.
I’ve decided to rethink and re-prioritize my intentions and my efforts. Elaboration to follow ..
30 Day Writing Challenge – Day 12
It was a very good day!
Spent the day just hanging out with my Honey .. doing stuff together and looking for a needle in a haystack. Honey misplaced a $100 REI gift card and we were on a quest to find it. Gave the pups a bath (x3) and they were great about it. Still loved us afterward.
Honey went out and brought back some St. Louis style ribs, brisket, mac ‘n cheese, German potato salad and cole slaw for dinner. Onolicious! (That’s pidgin for Hella good!) Then we watched The Kingsman and had Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup ice cream for dessert. Awesome day.
Early up tomorrow for Grampa’s party. Can’t wait! My family is the love of my life and I cherish every moment I get to spend with them.
Woke up to Birthday wishes from friends and family. Very nice when folks take a few moments out of their busy day to connect and send positive thoughts and energy. Wonderful to wake up to that.
30 Day Writing Challenge – Day 11
June 26th, 2015. This is one of those day where you’ll remember where you were and what you were doing. Today is the day the Supreme Court of the United States of America made marriage for us gay folk the law of the land. Today is the day the United States of America did indeed become a more perfect union.
I woke up around 10 am this morning and received a text message from my sister in law in TN with the photo you see in this post. I turned on the TV to see the news. I always believed marriage equality would happen, I just didn’t really hope to see it happen in my lifetime. Oh what a happy day!
The San Francisco Gay Pride Parade and festivities are set to take place tomorrow, June 27th, which also happens to be my birthday. I haven’t been to a Pride Day in years, and this one is sure to be spectacular and joyful. Don’t know if I’ll make it to the City, but my heart will be there.
Also on this day, the USWNT played and defeated China to become one of the final four teams to challenge for the 2015 Women’s World Cup.
Tomorrow I wake up to my 55th year, and to the beginning of a brand new world .. how wonderful is that!?
30 Day Writing Challenge – Day 10
Long day. Worked my j.o.b. last night from 8 pm – 6 am, then drove an hour to my monthly business mastermind meeting. There’s usually 5 of us in the group, but 2 were out due to illness. The 3 of us remaining had a great morning session, then went for lunch. Group was done early, so I got to visit my grandfather at a more reasonable hour.
It’s 11:00 pm and I’m now ready to sleep. Eyes are tired. Then I remembered I needed to post, so here I am. Anyway, it’s been a really good day, a lot was accomplished today, and I’m feeling good and tired. Staying at Bumpa’s house tonight because it’s too risky to drive home, and I’ve really missed him. He sleeps a good part of the day now, but we just like to hang out together and watch John Wayne movies.
I’ll hang out until sometime after noon tomorrow, then make my way back home. Still have a lot of work to do on the home front, so need to get to it. This will be a fun weekend hanging out with my family. Not going to push it, or try to get anything done except for that.
G’nite world :)
30 Day Writing Challenge – Day 9
I slept late today. That is until my pups decided it was time, and woke me up with puppy kisses. Got up feeling pretty good and well rested.
My dad is throwing a huge family party this coming Sunday to celebrate my grandfather. I did some RSVP coordination for him and volunteered to pick Bumpa up and get him to the party nice and early. Bumpa is 95 years old (soon to be 96) and it’s a good time to get everyone together and party ‘cuz you just never know how much time you have.
Folks are coming from all over for this party .. and it sounds like there will be about 50-60 family members in attendance.
I’ve got the best family ever!
Also heard from a long lost business acquaintance. Been out of touch for about two years, and out of the blue I received a phone call and voice message. Looks like we may be doing some business together again in the fairly near future. In a fortuitous side note, the folks at Rapid Crush launched a brand new ecommerce theme, specially designed to promote a single product, or single line of products.
I was debating about getting it, when I heard from my friend .. and there ya go. Decision made. It’s the perfect theme for this new single product. I’m cautiously optimistic at this point. If all goes right, this could be very lucrative for both of us.
One of the things I’m working on is setting up some affiliate systems. Going through a bit of training right now, and hope to have some projects set up in the coming weeks.
Looking forward to my local mastermind meeting tomorrow morning. Lots of stuff to report.
30 Day Writing Challenge – Day 8
My Honey asked me to join her in JJ Virgin’s Sugar Solution Challenge. She has serious cravings and a family propensity for diabetes. Of course I’ll do it with her .. always easier to make lifestyle changes if all members of the household are on the same page.
A good deal of tonight was spent on going through an overview of the program and printing out the workbooks and various forms for the challenge. So, it appears the second half of 2015 will be a time of lifestyle challenges for me.
I’m up for it .. bring it on!
Oh, my Baby Girl is doing much better. Still in a little bit of pain early in the morning, but it seemed to wear off as the day went on. She’s about back to normal, thank Goodness.
Business-wise, I didn’t get a whole lot accomplished today .. and that’s okay. Not going to beat myself up about it. Will just try to get more done tomorrow.
That’s going to be it for today. I’m tired and so will listen to my body and go take a nap.
Until tomorrow ..
